Hollowpine Real Trails, Honest Gear Notes

Founding Story & Editorial Commitment

Hollowpine started because two friends kept finding the same recycled gear lists and vague route directions on every outdoor site they read, none of it written by anyone who had actually been there. A wrong turn on a badly described Yorkshire moorland walk was the last straw, and the first proper route guide got written that same week.

Since then, every article has followed the same rule: someone on the team walks the route or wears the kit first. We work directly with the writers who did the testing, cross-check their notes against manufacturer data, and put a second editor on every draft before it's published.

Readers come first in every decision we make. Funding stays transparent, sponsored features are labelled as exactly that, and any mistake we publish gets corrected in the open, with the fix dated and explained rather than quietly buried.

How We Keep Standards Up

Every article passes through a second editor who checks facts, distances and prices before it goes live. We publish corrections openly rather than quietly editing mistakes away.

Eleanor Marsh
We only publish a review once someone on the team has actually used the kit in bad weather, not just sunshine.
Eleanor Marsh, Senior Gear Editor
David Okafor
If a route description doesn't match what I find on the ground, it gets fixed before anyone else reads it.

Firsthand Experience

We don't write about a route or a jacket until someone on the team has actually used it outdoors. Secondhand summaries don't make it past the first draft.

Open Corrections

When we're wrong, we say so publicly and explain what changed. Readers can see the correction log, not just the finished article.

Reader Over Advertiser

Coverage decisions are made for the reader, not to please a gear brand. A partnership never changes a verdict.

We test claims before we repeat them, and we say plainly when something isn't worth your time. Every guide on this site is written by someone who has actually walked the route or worn the kit.
